Nah. In the pilot episode, Jim was just fooling around with Ernie's voice. At first, Ernie's voice sounded like that of Rowlf the Dog and it began to sound much more like Kermit's voice as the pilot went on, and, for that matter, as the series went on.

I've always wondered,is Frank Oz doing the performer for Ernie as well,or is Jim just giving Ernie a bit of a goofy voice?
