Wanda Sykes (born March 7, 1964), also known as Wanda Sykes-Hall, is an Emmy award-winning American stand-up comedian more...and actress. She is well known for her blunt observations on current events, the differences between the sexes and races, and life in general, as well as for her roles on the Emmy winning series, The New Adventures of Old Christine, opposite Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as Barb and on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, as herself. Sykes was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia, to an Army colonel father who worked at the Pentagon and a banker mother, and was a graduate of Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. Wanda is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Inc Sykes married David Hall in 1991 and was divorced in 1998. On November 15, 2008, she made it publicly known that she is a proud lesbian. She married her partner in California on October 25, 2008, prior to the passage of Proposition 8. less
