I found this specimen of Mutinus caninus (Dog Stinkhorn) in my brother's back yard. It comes by it's more...name quite honestly... I was quite aware of it's stench while lying within inches of it to photograph it. Like rotting meat.
"Unlike other "mushrooms," the stinkhorn distributes its spores by applying an odorous, spore-thick slime to its tip, which flies and other insects are attracted to. The flies then carry the spores to other places."
