Cable cars are in San Francisco. They were not only invented here, but also the FIRST mode of mass transit worldwide.

They are wooden carriages that are riding on rails up and down the steep hills. They get up the hills by a cable that runs under the street that the conductor uses a tool to grab on to and it yanks the car up. Down....GRAVITY!
